評分##Strogatz文筆好好啊, 是那種不驕不躁娓娓道來的學者氣質. 整本書的結構就是一部微積分的通史, 從阿基米德時代對無限的樸素認識, 到伽利略和開普勒, 到笛卡爾和費馬, 到牛頓和萊布尼茨, 再到"貴賓頭嬰兒臉"的傅裏葉, 每一代人都從每個時代的理論和認識局限中做齣瞭有限的突破. 而把所有這些 delta 加起來, 再迴過頭來看當代數學龐大的體係, 以及其能夠或不能解決的問題, 就特彆能夠 appreciate "edifice" 這個比喻, 它的基奠, 以及它未來的命運.
評分##本書英文標題的字麵意思其實是無窮的力量，中文標題用瞭意譯 叫微積分的力量，讓目標讀者直觀瞭解這本書在講啥。無窮是緣起，微積分是結果。這本書是一本極好的激發數學興趣和愛好的啓濛讀物，也是很棒的一本講述曆代著名數學傢生世的故事書。我沒想到笛卡爾嬌慣一生，最終因為要給女王上早課，而死於肺炎。也沒想到 微分的秘密藏在高中學過的不斷減小的數列裏（這種豁然開朗式的理解帶來的快樂是物質上的快樂無法比擬的）。我工作跟醫學和醫學影像都密切相關，這本書裏講瞭好些微積分在醫學和成像中的應用和貢獻，讓我倍感親切同時又相見恨晚。比如CT的成像，如何從多條衰減的射綫中重建處一個層麵裏的2D圖像。本書也讓我對維度詛咒有更加具體的認知。本書把相對論中涉及的現象，比如物質如何時空相互作用等講得趣味十足。
