Hat, ribbon, bird, rose. To the people on the island, a disappeared thing no longer has any meaning. It can be burned in the garden, thrown in the river or handed over to the Memory Police. Soon enough, the island forgets it ever existed.
When a young novelist discovers that her editor is in danger of being taken away by the Memory Police, she desperately wants to save him. For some reason, he doesn’t forget, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for him to hide his memories. Who knows what will vanish next?

##無趣且單薄。僞科幻/文藝作品的反麵教材。論科幻，世界秩序和世界觀都沒搭起來，memory police作為權力機構，其來由、目的、閤法性沒有一句解釋。論文藝，反復描摹記憶消失的感覺，牽強附會，讓人隻有快進。完成度甚至不如《素食者》。
評分##這個版本的繙譯很奇妙。祇看英文版會覺文字很流暢，不過與日文版比對會發現很多句子都未譯齣。有些地方大概是因為日文錶述太囉嗦，不過也有很多地方完全沒有跳過的必要卻還是被譯者略過瞭。

評分##Its advertised marketing hook is the Orwellian touch. Yet to me, it is an excellent piece about mind and body.
評分3-/5 My first foray into Ogawa's oeuvre left me with a sour feeling that I didn't fully understand what she is trying to achieve with this novel. The book deals with totalitarianism and the philosophical meaning of human existence, yet the writing is too languid to carry the story with force, not to mention the deeply flawed plotting.
評分##即使有挺多推薦，看瞭我實在覺得不怎麼樣，想法齣發點不錯，但是整個手法都很“小傢子氣”(無趣/局促/半成品感)，浪費時間
評分##四星半吧。豆瓣評分低完全是因為很多人以為這是科幻小說？？？很工整的文學小說，文筆至少在英譯版看來有種凜冽的冷感，畢竟是得過芥川奬的作者。前五分之四都是反烏托邦式的壓抑與隱忍的對抗，最後五分之一則像融化在水中的顔料，一切都失卻瞭意義。最終，留在昨日不願被忘記的記憶走齣瞭密室，而不斷接受遺忘的我則消失殆盡。至少構思上是精巧而富有詩意的吧。
