作者简介

Maurice Sendak received the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are. In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for illustration, and he remains the only American ever awarded this honor. In 1983 Sendak received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, given in recognition of his entire body of work. He also received a 1996 National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America.

the things about fairy tales, though, including the ones that disney has sanitized, is that they are all creepy. to those people who are saying to keep this book away from small children, etc ... i say it is no more disturbing than "hansel and gretel" or any other tale by the brothers grimm. and it is not any more disturbing than any other sendak book. from "where the wild things are" to "pierre" to "in the night kitchen". they are fantasy and fable and fairy tale all together.

On a side note, I believe this story is the basis for the movie Labyrinth. This wonderful movie is a strong tribute to Sendak in so many little ways, but the overall premise of the movie is very similar--a girl&#039;s jealous of her new half-brother and wishes the goblins would come and take him away. They do, and she must deal with the goblin king and the challenge he sets before her in order to get her baby brother back. Fabulous movie--if you love the book, I bet you&#039;ll love the movie, or vice versa!
