Syd Hoff was born and raised in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design and sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker when he was eighteen. Mr. Hoff wrote more than fifty books for children, including the I Can Read titles Danny and the Dinosaur, Oliver, and Sammy the Seal.

裏麵的故事常常感動著我，給我印象最深的一篇故事是《灰姑娘》，裏麵講述的是一個美麗善良的小女孩。她的媽媽死去瞭，父親給她找瞭一個後媽。那個後媽帶著兩個小女孩，這兩個女孩愛美、狠毒。這樣，灰姑娘就被欺負，天天睡在廚房裏，身上很髒，所以彆人稱她灰姑娘。她在媽媽的墳墓旁，認識瞭小白鴿。有一次，國王幫王子選妃，舉行瞭三天宴會。最後，灰姑娘被選上瞭王妃，而兩個姐姐氣得暈過去瞭。

也許是因為像這樣的故事看得多瞭，我開始喜歡幻想，我喜歡做夢，因為有許多在現實生活中不能完成的事在夢裏都能實現。我並且相信，善良的人都會有好報，像灰姑娘，像白雪公主，等等。
