中國科學引文索引(China Science Citation Index,CSCI）。瞭解CSCI，得先從SCI說起。SCI全稱是Science Citation Index，是美國科學情報研究所（ Institute for Scientific Information，簡稱ISI）齣版的一部世界著名的期刊文獻檢索工具，其齣版形式包括印刷版期刊和光盤版及聯機數據庫，還發行瞭互聯網上Web版數據庫。SCI收錄全世界齣版的數、理、化、農、林、醫、生命科學、天文、地理、環境、材料、工程技術等自然科學各學科的核心期刊約3500種。ISI通過它嚴格的選刊標準和評估程序挑選刊源，而且每年略有增減，從而做到SCI收錄的文獻能全麵覆蓋全世界最重要和最有影響力的研究成果。ISI所謂最有影響力的研究成果，指的是報道這些成果的文獻大量地被其它文獻引用。為此，作為一部檢索工具，SCI一反其它檢索工具通過主題或分類途徑檢索文獻的常規做法，而設置瞭獨特的“引文索引”（Citation Index）。即通過先期的文獻被當前文獻的引用，來說明文獻之間的相關性及先前文獻對當前文獻的影響力。SCI以上做法上的特點，使得SCI不僅作為一部文獻檢索工具使用，而且成為科研評價的一種依據。科研機構被SCI收錄的論文總量，反映整個機構的科研、尤其是基礎研究的水平；個人的論文被SCI收錄的數量及被引用次數，反映他的研究能力與學術水平。
