作者簡介

Lawrence R．Rabiner，美國工程院和美國科學院院士，美國聲學學會、IEEE、Bell實驗室、AT&T;會士，以及Eta Kappa Nu、Sigma Xi、Tau Beta Pi等榮譽學會會員。曾擔任美國聲學學會副主席、IEEE Trans．ASSP主編和IEEE Proceedings編委會成員。其主要研究方嚮包括：通信、控製與信號處理、數字信號處理、數字語音處理、多媒體通信、多模態處理等。Rabiner教授於2002年從AT&T;退休，隨後擔任Rutgers大學和加州大學聖巴巴拉分校的教授，以及Rutgers大學先進信息處理中心副主任。

　　他們有很長一段時間其實是在北洋政府時代，“五四”時代是北洋政府黨爭的時候，那個環境和後來又不一樣。這樣的時代環境，不踏入你不可能去捍衛什麼。你必須要一腳踏進去，一腳在外麵。他們是從“仕”到知識分子過渡的這一代人，他們和後麵完全專業的讀書人，知識分子不太一樣。

　　所以，它的作用是非常明顯的。比如以前教你織傳統的布，齣一本書可能要180張圖片，告訴你那個針要怎麼弄，你還看不太懂，而現在，連錄影帶都典藏，你打齣來就可以看到瞭。這些不但不用錢，而且學術知識公共化。

　　鬍適、傅斯年這一代雖然沒有參加過晚清最後的科舉，但他們是舊的“仕”到知識分子過渡期産生的人。他們不是以道自認，他們還要以天下自認。他們對於現實的參與很多，雖然嚴格說起來，他們也沒有做過政府的官。鬍適先生從他的日記和書信可以看齣來，蔣介石其實到後期，一直很想用各種位置把他拉齣來。但是傅斯年他們一直都在阻擋，認為應該堅決地推掉。
