It begins with absence and desire. It begins with blood and fear. It begins with a discovery of witches. When historian Diana Bishop opens an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, it's an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordered life. Though Diana is a witch of impeccable lineage, the violent death of her parents while she was still a child convinced her that human fear is more potent than any witchcraft. Now Diana has unwittingly exposed herself to a world she's kept at bay for years; one of powerful witches, creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires. Sensing the significance of Diana's discovery, the creatures gather in Oxford, among them the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, a vampire genticist. Diana is inexplicably drawn to Matthew and, in a shadowy world of half-truths and old enmities, ties herself to him without fully understanding the ancient line they are crossing. As they begin to unlock the secrets of the manuscript and their feelings for each other deepen, so the fragile balance of peace unravels...

节奏太拖拉，跳着看的，五章能凑一集剧就不错了……妥妥的古早玛丽苏，牛津部分还凑合(吸血鬼还做瑜伽笑死)，去法国金屋藏娇大面积崩坏简直没眼看，仅一些背景和书袋还算有趣。无法脑补马修古德演法国人。IB蜀黍的博士论文写的也是女巫，不由好奇他老人家会怎么写女巫小说……希望剧组能强力改编扭转局面吧
评分##a discovery of witches is an interesting story, a combination of witchcrafts and vampires and history. But it’s poorly told in the book, the writing is too plain. However, the TV series is beautifully done.
评分##研究supernatural的历史学家写的女巫小说。爱情线像Twilight, 女主父母双亡就像Harry Potter，中间历史与解迷像达芬奇密码，女巫与吸血鬼的DNA和生命进化结合在一起还是蛮有趣的，最后穿越伊丽莎白一世年代联想到Doctor Who，也许每个历史学家都有穿越的梦想。但是阅读过程当中觉得描述性的文字比较累赘，还加入了大量古代方言，拉丁文之类的，这些都影响阅读进度。

评分##总的来说还是一部言情小说，有几处设定我个人很喜欢：男女主的学术背景设定、女主家有生命的房子以及小说中很多涉及到生物、历史、科学方面的知识都很有意思。Rebecca Bishop在整部书中的影响力让人想到了希区柯克的电影Rebecca。 小说的中后段的两处描写很感人：女主在受难时脑中闪回了儿时妈妈睡前给自己讲的童话故事，一个包含了希望、力量和爱的，同时带有预言性质的故事；男女主血液相融的画面堪称全书最震撼同时也是最血腥的画面之一，期待电视剧的呈现效果。对于该小说最想吐槽的地方主要是作者塑造人物的失败，人物性格前中后期的变化缺乏合理的过渡，同时书中还充斥着大量无意义且对剧情推动毫无帮助的情节。

评分##Guilty pleasure...等不了英剧每周一集40分钟，只好借助原著全程带mg脸看完。作者是个有少女心的历史学家，跟文学并没有什么关系。
