A sizzling drama of desire, avarice and deception set in the American Deep South, Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is publish ed in Penguin Modern Classics.'Big Daddy' Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is about to celebrate his sixty-fifth birthday. His two sons have returned home for the occasion: Gooper, his wife and children, Brick, an ageing football hero who has turned to drink, and his feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of happy family life and Southern gentility gradually slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies, jealousy and suppressed sexuality threaten to reach boiling point. Made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a masterly portrayal of family tensions and individuals trapped in prisons of their own making.

评分##还是更喜欢《欲望》，那部里面冲突的核心没有这里具象化，可能我更喜欢戏剧里那种个人或某一特殊群体的绝境吧。Brick有点让我想起Hemingway那些主人公，the additional charm of that cool air of detachment that people who have gicen up the struggle, 不过他是被动的。包括Maggie the cat，这部是关于一种焦灼，从现实来的胁迫感。

评分##cat on a hot tin roof，好比喻也经不起反复用，灵气受折磨。 Broadway Version结局不如原版，强求人物发狠，突变太多。Williams的解释是，"Brick should undergo some apparent mutation"，但想没想过，醉鬼真的只希望跪在烂摊子里流点眼泪，他不要变，要酒。非把玻璃裂痕都熔了，捏作新玻璃，说这是人的崛起，之后再不会碎，以为这么更聪明。殊不知最好的就是那一个碎，全毁了最聪明。

评分##自以为比streetcar会更有tension。And once again sensing the lack of communication under fast paced, breathless, overwhelming dialogues. 喜欢original script，结尾多有意思啊
评分##谁能比在烫铁皮屋顶的猫更焦躁不安，我们都在等我们脑中的click。一场关于癌症、遗产、爱情、家庭、同性恋、酗酒和欺骗的生日会，典型的偶合家庭，各怀所图，或单纯或贪婪或绝望，人之常情的复杂性，矛盾鲜明却引而不发。前两幕可谓intense到极致，第三幕的两个版本个人更喜欢第一个，这是个不需要温情的剧本。 没买到中译本，只好读原版，剧情过于流畅和紧张使得频频的错字和缩写也不是什么阅读大问题。只是不明白这个写在1954年的剧本为何跟网上分类到儿童读物里面了。
