书是硬壳版的，书皮上有浮雕纹路，纸张是铜版纸。书并不是小说前传，更像是历史整理和部分内容的扩展。本书是对于小说所提及的历史和一些小说没有的历史进行的记录，并不是小说原著的一部分。对地图上的家族、族谱和历史进行的梳理，算是背景集合书。
