作者簡介

Stephen Hawking, who was born on the anniversary of Galileo’s death in 1942, held Isaac Newton’s chair as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge for thirty years. 我是我們村裏第一個在網上買東西的，這裏大部分人都是不網購的，他們買價格一般都不會超過2塊。當聽說我網上買東西之後，整個村都震驚瞭，村長跑到我傢對我爸說是不是瘋瞭。媳婦跟我鬧離婚，這日子沒法過瞭。麵對著重重壓力，我依然堅持要買，我相信我這個月的工資不會白花。終於快遞到瞭，我懷揣著激動的心情，顫抖著手打開包裹，那一刹那，感覺我的眼睛要閃瞎瞭! 啊，這顔色，這手感，隻恨我讀書少無法用華麗的詞藻形容它。我舉著它驕傲的站在村口，頓時整個村沸騰瞭，更有人喊，我不給她]摸，她們就跳井。就連村花都紅著臉要跟我迴傢，看著隔壁老王殺人的目光，纔想起這是他花瞭一麻袋瓜換來的老婆。嚇得我趕緊收起寶貝，擠齣人群落荒而逃。為測試寶貝的效果，我立刻去我們村高達100多平方的村長傢客廳裏去用。用完後，在全村人羨慕的目光中昂首挺胸的揚長而去。村長老婆送我齣去還多看我兩眼，我也不知道是什麼意思。

這是霍金寫給成年人看的科普書，小孩子不太可能看得懂，高中物理都沒學齊的話最多也就意思意思一下。翻譯的質量也算可以，比起吳忠超翻譯的其他經典簡直好不要太多。

作者成功地把妙趣橫生的故事和對科學內容的闡述聯姻，絲絲入扣，不露痕跡。故事講完瞭，科學現象的畫麵變得清晰，而其中又真切地交融瞭科學傢在探索過程中所顯示的無與倫比的睿智和堅韌不拔的努力。作者在最後一章關於意識問題的討論時，動情地描述瞭剋裏剋（1962年諾奬得主）沉屙罹身，仍然孜孜不倦地鑽研意識研究的重要問題，並且發錶瞭不少真知灼見，展現瞭一位偉大科學傢對科學的獻身精神。好書，認真讀。
