作者简介

William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest playwright the world has seen. He produced an astonishing amount of work; 37 plays, 154 sonnets, and 5 poems. He died on 23rd April 1616, aged 52, and was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, Stratford.

　　　　莎士比亚戏剧的最早中译本，是田汉的《哈孟雷特》，发表在1921年的《少年中国》杂志上。之后，1926年张采真译《如愿》，1930年戴望舒译《麦克倍斯》。然而，在中国翻译莎士比亚的作品最具代表性的人物当属两人：一位是朱生豪，一位是梁实秋。朱生豪从1937年开始翻译莎士比亚作品，至1944年先后译有喜剧、悲剧、杂剧等31种，可惜他英年早逝，有六个历史剧和全部诗歌没有来得及翻译。梁实秋1930年开始着手翻译莎士比亚的戏剧，从1936年商务印书馆首次出版他译的莎士比亚戏剧8种，至1967年最终完成《莎士比亚全集》的翻译并出版，共历时37年。梁实秋是中国独自一人翻译《莎士比亚全集》的第一人。
