那天从山上送葬回到土坯小屋，就失去了悲痛的感觉悲痛在极点上持续，就不再是悲痛。那些山民，我平时称作婆姨姑嫂爷舅叔伯的，都在屋子里站着，翻来复去地说着那几句话人死了就活不回来了。再说老天爷要收人，毛主席他自己都没办法。屋子里弥漫着烟雾。秦三爹不停地卷着喇叭筒给身边的人抽。这是我非常熟悉的气息，只有山里未经制作的土烟才是这样浓烈而辛辣。父亲生前经常在煤油灯下一坐就是几个小时，缓慢地卷起一支喇叭筒，凑在灯上点燃，吸完了，又开始卷下一支，一句话不说，就过了一晚。昏黄的煤油灯把山民们的身影映在墙上，看久了就会产生某种幻觉。在那些逝去的夜晚，我在父亲的对面复习功课，越过他的肩看见墙上的身影，一动不动，看着看着就觉得那身影不很真切，像墙上凹进去了一块。那些日子一去不复返，父亲在山中，在永远寂静的黄土深处。
