作者簡介

Walter Isaacson (born May 20, 1952) is a writer and biographer. He is the President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, a nonpartisan educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C. He has been the Chairman and CEO of CNN and the Managing Editor of TIME. He was appointed by President Obama to be the Chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which runs Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and the other international broadcasts of the U.S. government.

1955年4月，愛因斯坦被診斷齣患有主動脈瘤，18日午夜在睡夢中感到呼吸睏難，主動脈瘤破裂導緻大腦溢血破裂，而逝世於普林斯頓。一位名叫托馬斯·哈維的醫生在驗屍過程中，在未經愛因斯坦的傢人允許下，私自取下愛因斯坦的大腦保存，這位病理醫生希望未來神經科學界能夠研究愛因斯坦的大腦，以發現愛因斯坦那麼聰明的原因。[13]為遵照愛因斯坦的遺囑，他死後並沒有舉行任何喪禮，也不築墳墓，不立紀念碑，骨灰撒在永遠保密的地方，目的是不會令埋葬他的地方成為聖地。愛因斯坦的後半生一直從事尋找統一場論的工作，不過這項工作沒有獲得成功，對此，著名的愛氏研究專傢亞伯拉罕·派斯曾說：“愛因斯坦在1925年之後就應該去釣魚，而不是繼續做研究”[14]。現在，尋找比統一場論包含內容更廣泛、能夠統一解釋各種基本相互作用的理論，是理論物理學研究的中心問題之一。
