　　An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations，中文譯名為《國富論》或《國民財富的性質和原因的研究》，作者亞當·斯密是英國著名古典政治經濟學傢、哲學傢，被譽為現代西方經濟學之父。這是一部劃時代的巨著，是市場經濟學的“聖經”。該書在曆史上首次提齣瞭全麵係統的經濟學說，為該領域的發展奠定瞭堅實的基礎，它是現代政治經濟學研究的起點。它概括瞭古典政治經濟學在形成階段的理論成就，最早係統地闡述瞭政治經濟學的各個主要學說，標誌著自由資本主義時代的到來。主張自由市場，反對政府乾預和壟斷，但也不認為商業製度本身是完全值得贊美的；在贊揚對物質追求的同時，又鄙視商人的不良行為和 策略。
