作者简介

　　乔治·奥威尔（George Orwell，1903年6月25日-1950年1月21日），英国著名小说家、记者和社会评论家。他毕业于伊顿公学，后来被派到缅甸任警察。20世纪30年代，他参加西班牙内战，回国后却又因被划入左派，不得不流亡法国。二战中，他在英国广播公司写报道。后来担任《论坛报》编辑，1945年辞职。1950年，死于困扰其数年的肺病，年尽46岁。他的代表作《动物庄园》和《一九八四》是反极权主义的经典名著。

In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness willbe covered by only six words —— in reality， only one word.Don't you see the beauty of that， Winston? 　　A sort of vapid eagerness flitted across Winston's face atthe mention of Big Brother. Nevertheless Syme immediatelydetected a certain lack of enthusiasm.
　　"You haven't a real appreciation of Newspeak， Winston，"he said almost sadly. "Even when you write it you're stillthinking in Oldspeak. I've read some of those pieces thatyou write in the Times occasionally. They're good enough，but they're translations. In your heart you'd prefer to stickto Oldspeak， with all its vagueness and its useless shades ofmeaning. You don't grasp the beauty of the destruction ofwords. Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in theworld whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?"
