孩子的天性是绝对按照追求快乐、逃避痛苦的原则去做事，而不是通过理性思考再去行动。通常在孩子心中总是有这样一种困惑：同样一种行为怎么有时会获得表扬，有时却是批评，到底是怎么一回事？孩子心中是弄不明白的。

我想起自己小的时候大约六岁那年的夏天，父亲开着拖拉机回家取东西时把车停在院外，结果出门时正好有朋友从远方来，寒暄着进屋。父亲说：“谁去把车关了？”这时我挺身说：“我去吧！”父亲：“你能行吗？”“能行，我看过你关车。”说着就跑出去，爬到车上一掰油门儿，车熄火了。回来时父母一起夸我：“儿子你真聪明，能关车了，好样的！”父亲的朋友也夸张地说：“小家伙你怎么这厉害，都能关车了，太厉害了！”我当时那个高兴啊！那种自豪感别提了。

我们通常的做法是，对着孩子不停地讲道理，认为只要把道理讲清，孩子就应该理所当然地按着道理去做。假如你跟一个五岁的孩子说：“长大了要当科学家，知道吗？”孩子说：“知道！”可是孩子真的知道吗？事实上，我们所说的大多数道理孩子是听不懂的，孩子是通过行为来学习，通过感觉来体会道理的，根本不是按着道理去做事情的。
