听说他是全北京最早开私家车的几个车主之一，而且是高层特批的。在这个故事里，真正让我感慨的是，开车时，他已经过了六十。后来，各种好车都喜欢，有空就过把瘾，只是到近几年，年纪大了，才只看不开了。

老爷子还写诗，写成一本诗集，然后一本正经地到书店里找一帮老友慢慢地读，退了的李瑞环都来帮忙，没什么起立握手，大家都玩得开心。而在北京的东郊外，老爷子大手笔建了一个园子叫万荷堂，时常高朋满座，有重要聚会就由老爷子寄出亲笔书写的请柬，把游戏也正规对待。我接到过请柬，但还从未去过，一来机缘不巧，二来也怕搅了老爷子的清静。然而，一想到他，还会很开心。这个时候，你不太怕岁月的侵蚀，原来老去，不过意味着生命的另一种可能，甚至你会好奇，岁月中那么多的苦难，都去哪儿了呢？

丁聪是黄永玉的老朋友，我在十几年前因为采访而走进“小丁”的家，以后就多了一些思念与牵挂。前些年，一场大病，老爷子进了医院，出来后，我看到他，慰问，没想到老爷子依然笑容满面，“我该走了，可问了一圈，人家不收。”于是，我们爷儿俩接着聊，老爷子又一句话把我逗乐了：“住院手术真有好处，你看，我一下子瘦下来几十斤，这下省心了！”仔细一看，还真是，老爷子真瘦了太多，但是乐观没变。其实，这一辈子，折腾他的可不只是病，比如黄金岁月去东北养猪，可回过头，老爷子会骄傲地对我说：“我养那猪，特肥！”
